Our Approach

The Royal International School is dedicated to improving the quality of English medium education in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. While largely adhering to the national curriculum it strives to offer its students access to an active, interesting and joyful learning process. It further strives to touch the children in rural Sri Lanka; given that a fluent command in the English language is essential for achieving an effective higher education as well as rewarding careers, be it in the private, State or International sector. RIS has recognised the importance of providing such an education at an affordable and nominal price in a multi-racial and religious environment.

Child-centred Learning

We use a child-centred approach to teaching. Child centred learning means just that each child learns in a different way and has particular talents at RIS we aim to foster these talents so that the student can fully realise their potential.

An E Learning Project is being piloted with Grade 6,7 and 8students - it is in preparation now. We recognise that in the modern and ever increasing technological world it is vital students have access to skills that will enhance their lives and learning. The E Learning Project will be designed so that teachers can upload work and links to further information and students will each have access and be able to work/study in a new way.

Peer Learning - at RIS we believe that Class and Subject Teachers are not the only way students learn at school. We encourage peer learning amongst our students - those who already know can support and teach those who would like to know in a less formal way.

When learning is fun we remember so much more, at RIS we endeavour, at every stage, to make learning enjoyable as well as instilling a life-long love for learning and increasing knowledge.

Learning never stops no matter how long we live.
